Your Affordable Cape Cod Vacations Guide: About Me

The Person Behind Affordable-Cape-Cod-Vacations.com

March 12, 2010

Dear Visitors:

You've arrived at the page I've dreaded writing.

No. Not because I don't want to tell you about myself.

Me and the Kids at the Nantucket Whaling Museum But because I haven't been able to find a photo that I like well enough to post along with my personal introduction.

(Other than my wedding portrait. That's a really good photo - but not exactly what I have in mind for this page!)

So, until I find a better pic to post, here's a photo of me with my little buddies Devon and Logan, my niece and nephew.

We're standing on the roof deck of the Nantucket Whaling Museum, on one of our many day trips around Cape Cod and the Islands.

Okay. Formalities over ...

Now it's time to let you all in on who's behind this Affordable-Cape-Cod-Vacations.com website.

I'll spare you the: "I was born in a one-horse Pennsylvania town" part of my story, and fast-forward to today. (Actually, we had 5 horses and our neighbors had horses, too ... But I digress.)

Who Am I?

My name is Dee - a shortened version of my formal name, which is too difficult for most people to pronounce without a lot of practice.

I'm the crazy lady who took on the enormous task of creating a website, with absolutely no knowledge whatsoever about anything computer related. (Oops. I digress again. More about my computer skills - or lack thereof - later.)

I'm also the crazy lady you'll see traipsing all over Cape Cod, little Canon camera in hand and extra batteries in her shorts pocket, snapping photos of everything in sight ...

And walking up to complete strangers in parking lots, asking about their experiences at local restaurants -- or whether they think their lodging is worth the price they paid.

Of course, my husband (the wonderful and incredibly tolerant Richard), wants to crawl under the shrubbery when I do that.

But hey! How else am I supposed to decide what to feature on my new website and what to avoid like the plague?

Sure. Over our many years as part-time Cape Codders, we've found our own favorite places to go, things to do and restaurants to eat at when I don't feel like cooking (which is most of the time!).

But I realize that not everyone likes the same things we like.

So, if I'm going to give you the best possible scoop on Cape Cod - I need to find out what other people like and don't like, too.

Thus, the crazy lady talking to strangers, with the husband hiding in the shrubbery pretending he doesn't know her.

Why A Website About Cape Cod?

Yep. I knew from the minute I started this project that mine wouldn't be the only Cape Cod website out there. Far from it.

But the Cape is one of my 2 most favorite places in the whole world. (The Pacific coast of Costa Rica being the other.)

My tutor in website creation said that my site should be my passion - I should write about something I love and know a lot about.

Voila! Cape Cod.

But with so many other sites about the Cape ... all way bigger and fancier than I could make ... the question became:

"What can I offer that those other sites don't?"

Voila, again!

I'm a bit of a tightwad. My hubby and I love to vacation - but it makes me nuts to find that the guy in the seat next to me on the plane paid $100 less for his ticket than I paid.

And that's how my new baby - Affordable Cape Cod Vacations - was born.

It can take hours - days, even - to sift through all the information out there, trying to figure out ways to keep your Cape Cod vacations costs down.

That's why I decided to pitch in and help you do it.

To me, it's a fun challenge to ferret out the best deals I can find.

Phone calls, online research, talking with restaurant managers, tour providers, owners of summer rental homes, hotels, motels and inns.

That's what I do, so you won't have to do so much of it.

Oh, yeah ...

And checking out lots of local events, activities and attractions, too. In person. So I can let you in on which ones are worth your valuable vacation time and money.

Even Richard is lovin' our "research" excursions! (Until I start talking to strangers. Then into the shrubbery he goes ...)

Who's The "We"?

In many of the pages of Affordable-Cape-Cod-Vacations.com, I refer to "we" or "our".

When I do that, I'm talking about me and Mr. Shrubbery Hider. I consider this our website. The good parts, at least.

If you happen to find a page or two that's not quite up to par yet, I take full reponsibility for that. As I said above, this website creating stuff is a whole new thing for me.

I'm writing new pages all the time, and going back every few days to add more information to previously posted pages.

Please come back and visit our site often. I know you'll find lots of helpful information, some entertaining stories of our lives and times on the Cape ... and save yourself some time and money planning your affordable Cape Cod vacations, too.

As always - if you have any questions about Cape Cod, please don't hesitate to contact me by email or post your question here. I'll get back to you with an answer just as soon as I can.

Thanks for visiting, and happy travels!

Dee

P.S. If you've been to Cape Cod and have your own favorite affordable restaurants, lodgings or activities you'd like to share ... please let me know.

I'd love to include your thoughts, suggestions and photos at Affordable Cape Cod Vacations.com, too!
