Best Airport to Fly Into if Visiting Cape Cod

by Nancy
(Chicago)

Question: We will be coming to Cape Cod in late April from Chicago. Which airport is best?

Dee's Reply:

Hi Nancy -

You'll probably have the largest selection of flights and fares if you fly from your home airport to Logan International Airport in Boston.

When you arrive in Boston, you can then: (1) rent a car and drive to the Cape; (2) take a bus to Cape Cod; or (3) take a 30-minute commuter flight on Cape Air airlines to either Barnstable Municipal (Hyannis) Airport or Provincetown Airport.

Hyannis Airport is centrally located in the mid-Cape region. Provincetown Airport is way out at the farthest end of the Cape. Choosing between Hyannis or Provincetown, you'd want to pick whichever is nearest to your destination on the Cape.

That said, there's another option that I think is better. Our family likes to fly into and out of T.F. Green Airport in Providence, Rhode Island. It's only about 60 miles from the Cape, and it's a really easy drive.

If you fly to Providence, rent a car there, and drive to the Cape - you'll probably be here in less time (and perhaps less cost) than if you fly to Boston then fly/drive/bus to the Cape.

So, I'd suggest that you compare all the options to see what works best for your schedule and budget. In the end, I suspect you'll find that flying into T.F. Green then driving to the Cape will be an easy, cost-effective choice.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Dee

P.S. Here are the airport codes for your research: Logan International Airport in Boston (BOS), T.F. Green Airport in Providence (PVD), Barnstable Municipal Airport in Hyannis (HYA), Provincetown Municipal Airport (PVC).
