Things to Do on Cape Cod in February

We're loving this mild Winter here on Cape Cod! Events in February give us all a chance to get oudoors and enjoy our temperate climate.



And if a cold wind does blow in, there's plenty of indoor activities to keep you warm, toasty and entertained.

Wednesday Walks with Connie Boyce

When: Wednesday mornings in February, weather permitting (see schedule below)

Where: Meet at Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Brewster

Admission: $4/Member, $6/Non-Member, $2 van ride

Renowned local naturalist, Connie Boyce, leads these popular walks on Wednesday morning from the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster. Each week has participants venturing to a different locale to explore the history and natural environment of Cape Cod, from cranberry bogs and conservation areas to marshlands and seaside trails. Walks require some physical stamina - plan on covering approximately 3-4 miles in about 2 hours.

Woods Hole Film Festival Winter Dinner & Movie Series

When: February 4, 2012 and February 18, 2012. Dinner at 5:30 p.m., film screening at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Cap'n Kidd Restaurant, 77 Water Street, Woods Hole

Admission: Tickets $25. Reservations required. Ticket price includes dinner and movie, does not include beverage, dessert, tax and tip.

Film buffs will have a great evening out for a community-table dinner followed by a film screening at the Cap'n Kidd in Woods Hole. On February 4th, the featured film is Circus Dreams, the story of kids pursuing their dream of joining the traveling youth "Circus Smirkus". On February 18th is Losing Control, a romantic comedy about a female scientist who wants proof that her boyfriend is 'the one' before she can accept his marriage proposal.

Friends of CCNS Annual Winter Film Festival

When: Sundays in February at 1:30 p.m. (see schedule below)

Where: Salt Pond Visitors Center, 10 Nauset Road, Eastham

If you're looking for something to do on a chilly Sunday afternoon, head out to the Salt Pond Visitors Center in Eastham for the Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore's Winter Film Festival. This month's lineup of family friendly movies includes:

February 5, 2012 - We Shall Remain - Exploring Native American history as told through indigenous eyes.

February 12, 2012 - Robinson Crusoe - Daniel Defoe’s classic tale comes to life as Robinson Crusoe survives a shipwreck in the 1650s and washes up on a remote island.

February 19, 2012 - Wall-E - The Oscar-winning Pixar film set in a futuristic world of robots and sci-fi.

February 26, 2012 - The Sea Behind the Dunes and Adrift on the Gulf Stream - NOVA films about the world around us, illustrating and illuminating the extreme experiences in our coastal environment.

6th Annual Cape Cod Boat Builders' Show

When: February 10-12, 2012, Friday 2 p.m.-7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

CapePOPS! A Night at the Movies

The Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra presents Emmy-winning composer Kurt Bestor as guest conductor and host for "A Night at the Movies: The Music That Makes Movies Magical". Featuring scores from more than 30 classic films including Star Wars, Psycho, Lord of the Rings and Titanic, you'll be transported through nine decades of popular movies during these fantastic CapePOPS! performances.

Valentine's Tea

When: February 13, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Atwood House Museum, 347 Stage Harbor Road, Chatham

Admission: $8 members, $10 non-members

An afternoon tea at the historic Atwood House. What a wonderful way to commemorate Valentine's Day! In addition to tea service, cider and cookies, you'll be treated to a "chocolate painting" demonstration and displays of beautiful handcrafts including sailors' valentines and Nantucket baskets. The sponsors have requested that everyone wear something red to add to the festive Valentine's Day atmosphere.

Hyannis Marathon Weekend


When: February 24-26, 2012

Where: Resort and Conference Center, Hyannis

Admission: Entry fees - Marathon $60-$65, Half Marathon $50-$55, Marathon Team Relay $110-$120/team

One of the premier Cape Cod events of the winter season, the Hyannis Marathon is a qualifying event for the world-famous Boston Marathon. This weekend kicks off on Friday with a 5Km Fun Run. Saturday features the Hyannis Marathon Race Exposition. And Sunday brings the running of the Hyannis Marathon, the Half Marathon and the Marathon Team Relay. Joan Benoit Samuelson, Olympic gold medalist and one of the world's all-time great marathon runners, will be a special guest throughout the weekend.
