Although summer is drawing to an end, our Cape Cod events calendar for September is still full of fun things to do.

Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta

When: September 7-10, 2015

Where: MacMillan Pier, Provincetown Harbor and offshore

The annual Schooner Regatta brings classic sailing vessels and yachting fans from far and wide to Provincetown for a week of sailing and educational events. Whether you're onboard or onshore, you'll find plenty to see and do during the regatta  including schooner and cat boat tours, a "Paint the Race" art class for kids, informative talks, and of course, schooner and yacht racing!

Want to be up close to the action? Reserve a seat on a schooner for the Fishermen’s Cup race from Gloucester to Provincetown, the Parade of Sail, or the Long Point Schooner & Yacht Race. A limited number of spectator seats seats may also be available on other vessels. (See the Regatta's website for details. Early reservations are a must!)

Eastham's Windmill Weekend Festival

When: September 11-13, 2015

Where: Windmill Green and other locations in Eastham

Admission: Many events are free

Join the festivities and show off your skills at the sand art contest at First Encounter Beach. Pick up a few Holiday gifts at the arts and crafts show. Chow down at the cookout. Tour Nauset Lighthouse.  Enter for chances to win great raffle prizes. And be sure to save time in your schedule for the Windmill Weekend Parade on Sunday.

Bird Carvers & Wildlife Arts Show and Sale

When: September 12 &13, 2015, 10am-4pm

Where: Green Briar Nature Center, 6 Discovery Hill Road, East Sandwich, MA  02537

The annual Bird Carvers & Wildlife Arts Show and Sale features New England's most outstanding carvers displaying and selling their wares.  Some will give carving demonstrations as well throughout the weekend event. 

All admission proceeds from this event go to a great cause - Thornton W. Burgess Society and its Green Briar Nature Center's environmental education programs.

Seaside LeMans Race

When: September 12, 2015, 1 p.m.

Where: Mashpee Commons, Mashpee

Admission: Free for spectators

"Drivers ... start your engines!"

Race fans won't want to miss this special event where teams of fearless drivers hop into European-style Formula One karts and vie for the checkered flag.

From the drop of the green flag, to pit stops, spin-outs and crashes, to the much-anticipated final lap, it's non-stop excitement for participants and spectators alike!

With the 4-hour race as its main feature, plus entertainment by popular local bands, lots of children’s activities, food and drinks - Seaside LeMans is a fun outing for the whole family.

Harwich Beach Day

When: September 12, 2015, 11 am - 3 pm (rain date Sept. 13)

Where: Red River Beach, South Harwich

Just another lazy day at the beach? No way!

Harwich's Beach Day is full of activities - games, races, arts and crafts, face painting, sand sculptures, hayrides and pony rides, raffles, food, drink and a bake sale - plus an evening bonfire with live music.

If you're going to be in Harwich, or anywhere nearby, take a spin over to Red River Beach and join in the festivities!

Annual Glass Show & Sale

When: September 12-13, 2015,  Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Where: Corpus Christi Church, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, East Sandwich

Sponsored by the Sandwich Glass Museum, this show and sale features unique antique and collectible American and European glassware from the 18th to the 21st century. This is a great opportunity to meet nationally-prominent glass dealers and to acquire a glass treasure for your own collection or for a special gift.

Cranberry Cluster Dog Shows

When: September 10 and 13, 2015 

Where: Cape Cod Fairgrounds, East Falmouth

Admission: Adults $5, children (under 12) $2

The Cranberry Cluster All-Breed Dog Show and Obedience/Rally Trials is an AKC recognized competition featuring top dogs from both the Cape Cod Kennel Club and the South Shore Kennel Club. 

This event includes conformation judging, obedience trials and rally trials.

Note: No un-entered dogs will be allowed on premises, per AKC rules.

Carousel of Light Special Events

When: Multiple dates in September (see event schedule below)

Where: Mullen-Hall Elementary School, 130 Katharine Lee Bates Road, Falmouth

Come out for a ride on one of the most popular attractions in Falmouth - the Carousel of Light.

This hand-carved, twirling work of art features 20 wooden horses and 2 wheelchair accessible chariots (including one called "Bubbles" that actually blows bubbles!), all decked out in a nautical flair. 

Here are this month's special events at the Carousel ...

  • September 13 - Grandparents' & Grandfriends' Day (11 a.m. to sunset) 
    Kids get a free ride when accompanied by a grandparent or grandfriend!

  • September 19 & 20 - Family Photo Days (Saturday from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.) Local photographer Bree Hester will be taking photos at the Carousel of Light, a perfect setting for that special family keepsake or Holiday photo. A 20-minute photo session is $50. Reserve your session by email to: falmouthcarousel

  • September 26 - Cartoon Character Day (11 a.m. to sunset)  Come ride the carousel with your favorite cartoon characters. Kids dressed in costume will get a free ride!

Harwich Cranberry Arts and Music Festival

When: September 19-20, 2015; Crafts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; Music from 2 - 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 - 5 p.m. Sunday

It's another fun weekend in the town of Harwich, thanks to the Harwich Cranberry Festival Organization.

This two-day festival features more than 100 talented artists and crafters displaying their wares for sale. (A little early Holiday shopping, anyone?)

When you hear the music, head over to the ballfield for some toe-tapping live entertainment. The festival is free for all to enjoy. And parking is free, too!

"Truro Treasures" Weekend

When: September 18-20, 2015

The normally tranquil town of Truro turns lively as residents and visitors celebrate Truro Treasures.

From start to finish, there's more to do in Truro this weekend than I can begin describe. Here's just a small sampling of the events to whet your appetite:

September brings us one of the most anticipated Cape Cod events of the season - ScallopFest.

For nearly a half century, ScallopFest has welcomed generations of locals and visitors to a festive celebration of the venerable (and tasty) scallop with three days of food and fun for the whole family.

In addition to ScallopFest's famous scallop and herb-roasted chicken dinners, there's a food court with raw bar, midway with rides, a juried craft show, kids games and activities, and live entertainment.

Tennessee Williams Theater Festival

When: September 24-27, 2015

Theater buffs from far and wide come to Cape Cod each year just to attend the  fabulous Tennessee Williams Theater Festival.  

Festival events are held at different venues around Provincetown, and include performances of Williams' works, opportunities to meet the artists, and get togethers for Williams aficionados at coffee hours, mixers and parties.

Dream Cruise By The Sea & Car Shows

When: September 26-27, 2015

Where: Falmouth Library Lawn and other venues in Falmouth

Admission: Free

This two-day event is a "don't miss" for auto-lovers of all ages. On Saturday, classic car shows are held in multiple locations around town, featuring historic, antique and classic cars, hot rods and muscle cars, plus a display from local police fire and sheriff's departments.

On Sunday, see vintage, exotic, hot-rod and muscle cars cruising down Main Street through historic Falmouth Village. Specially designed, one-of-a-kind glass trophies are awarded to the rides that're voted best in category.

ClamBQ! The Orleans Food & Music Festival

When: September 26, 2015, 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: 80 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA

Admission: $10 general admission/$25 BBQ + admission; $35 Clambake + admission; Kids 12 & under general admission FREE

Ready to chow down on a traditional New England clambake? ClamBQ! will be serving up the full feast - complete with steamers, lobster, corn and potatoes.

Want more food? The experts from Big Dog’s BBQ at The Orleans Bowling Center will be there, dishing out yummy pulled-pork sandwiches and special sides. Plus, there'll be a food court with delicious fare from several local restaurants.

Beverages? Yep, there'll be plenty to wet your whistle, too, including beer and wine in The Cisco Brewery Beer and Wine Garden. 

And let's not forget the entertainment! This is an event that has something for every member of the family. Throughout the day, the main stage will feature performances by Sarah Swain and The Oh Boys, The Rip It Ups & Digney Fignus. There'll also be a craft show and free kids’ activities, including hay rides, face painting, inflatable games, crafts and corn hole.

What a great way to spend an early autumn day on Cape Cod!
