Clamming for Steamers in Orleans

Question: Where to dig steamers in Orleans?

Dee's Reply: Hi Ed - Sorry, I don't know which areas in Orleans are currently open for recreational shellfishing. The town usually posts its open-areas map online here.

(FYI: For some reason, when I clicked on the map link on that page just a few minutes ago, it brought me to a log-in page rather than to the shellfishing areas map. Hmmmm. Maybe you'll have better luck with it than I'm having.)

Anyway, if you can't access the shellfishing area map on the town's website, then I'd suggest you take a ride down to the Orleans Sticker office at 139 Main Street, and speak with the person who sells the shellfish permits. He/she will give you a map of the open areas and a copy of the town's shellfishing regulations - along with some insights about the best places to dig steamer clams, I'm sure.

Happy clamming, and enjoy your fresh steamers!!

Best Regards,

Dee
