Distance from Parking Lot to South Cape Beach

by Jim
(Norwood)

Question: How far is it from the parking lot of South Cape Beach in Mashpee to the water or beach?

Dee's Reply: Hi Jim - There are two parking lots for South Cape Beach. One is managed by the town, the other is managed by the state.

The town's lot abuts the beach, so there's virtually no walk at all. From the state's lot, it's a very short walk to the beach - fifty yards, maybe? (I'm not great with estimating distances. Sorry!)

If you or someone who'll be with you has difficulty walking, you might want to call Waquoit Bay Estuarine Research Reserve headquarters to find out about reserving a beach wheelchair for use at South Cape. The phone number is (508) 457-0495, ext. 100.

Wheelchair availability is on a first-come-first-served basis, and advance reservations are required.

One important thing to note is that the state-managed parking lot at South Cape is open to everyone during the summer (with payment of a small parking fee), but it's locked in the off-season. The town's lot, on the other hand, is open to residents only in season (with a required sticker), but in the off-season it's open to everyone without any sticker or payment necessary.

Just in case you haven't already seen it, here's lots of info on Cape Cod's best accessible beaches.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Enjoy your visit to South Cape Beach!

Best Regards,

Dee
