Planning a September Vacation

by Donna
(Ontario, Canada)

Question: We are planning a 7 day trip to the Cape Cod area in September. Can you suggest the best type of accommodations and what attractions are a must see or do at this time of year?

Dee's Reply: Hi, Donna -

You've picked the perfect time of year to visit Cape Cod!

September is part of what we consider to be our "shoulder season". It's in between peak season and off-season, with all the benefits of both.

Everything is still open, the weather is usually glorious (mid-70s during the day and crisp evenings), and the crowds of summer are mainly gone.

As far as the best accommodations and things to do, that all depends on your personal preferences. Without knowing more, it's tough for me to make helpful suggestions.

If you'll get back to me with a few details, I'll be happy to help. Here's what I need to know:

1. When in September are you coming?

2. Will there be adults and children, or just adults?

3. Have you decided on a particular town where you'd like to stay, or are you looking for suggestions?

Here's where you can see my thoughts on the best Cape Cod towns for a variety of different vacation styles. If you'd like more in-depth info about any towns, just ask!

4. What kinds of things would you like to see and do while you're here?

My activity planner will give you a good idea of the wide variety of activities and attractions Cape Cod has to offer.

5. What type of vacation lodging do you prefer? Full-service hotels, inexpensive motels, B&Bs or inns, a rental home or cottage? Do you want to be on the beach, or is inland okay? Do you need pet-friendly, famiy-oriented, etc.?

Here's a link to my lodging section for lots of ideas.

6. Is there anything else that's important to you for your Cape Cod vacation? For example, would you prefer to be in/near a town with a walkable downtown area for shopping, dining, etc.? Do you hope to visit Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard while you're here?

The more info you can give me about your vacation wishes, the better I'll be able to help point you in the right direction!

Best Regards,

Dee
