 Update: March 2018

Travel Lane Closures on the Sagamore & Bourne Bridges

USACE has announced that maintenance work will be performed on the bridges, resulting in the following travel lane closures:

Sagamore Bridge: reduced to one travel lane in either direction from April 2 to May 25, 2018.

Bourne Bridge: reduced to one travel lane in either direction from September 6 to November 28, 2018.

Closures will be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

For regular updates on bridge work and lane closures, see USACE's Cape Cod Canal bridge alerts.

Traffic Reports by Phone

From inside Massachusetts, dial 511 on your mobile phone.

From outside Massachusetts, or from a landline anywhere, dial:

(
617) 986-5511 or
(508) 499-5511 or
(413) 754-5511

After the prompts, press the route number you'll be traveling:

Routes coming onto Cape Cod

  • Coming from Boston - press 3.

  • Coming from Worcester/Mass. Pike - press 495.

  • Coming from Providence - press 25.

Routes leaving Cape Cod

  • Leaving from Falmouth - press 28.

  • Leaving from other towns - press 6.

Note: There's no extra charge to call 511 from your mobile device in Massachusetts. Your normal mobile charges (if any) will apply, just as they would with any other call you make.

Traffic Condition Updates on the Radio

For regional traffic reports, I like Boston radio station WBZ 1030-AM for their "Traffic on The 3s". (Every ten minutes, e.g. 10:03, 10:13, 10:23, 10:33, etc.)

1030-AM's reports cover all the major roads leading to Cape Cod from Boston and the North Shore, as well as from Western and Central Massachusetts.

That includes: the Massachusetts Turnpike (Rt. 90), I-93, I-495, Rt. 3, Rt. 25, and the Bourne and Sagamore bridges.

For local road and bridge traffic conditions here on the Cape, we tune to WQRC 99.9-FM, a Hyannis-based radio station, for hourly (in-season) traffic reports.
