Pet Friendly Lodging - Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard region

by Wendy
(Haverstraw, NY)

Question: Do you know places where my hubby & I can stay with our dog?

We'd like to go from 8/15 - 8/18 or 8/19.

Also, what is the pricing?

Hi Wendy -

It's been a few years since my husband and I have visited either Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard for an overnight. And when we did, our pets remained at home on Cape Cod. So my knowledge of pet-friendly lodgings on either island is limited to places I've heard of or read about.

Since you haven't said which island you prefer - Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard - my best advice is to first make that choice. Then contact the island's Chamber of Commerce for recommendations on pet-friendly lodging, prices, etc.

The phone number for Nantucket Chamber of Commerce is (508) 228-1700; and the phone number for Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce is (508) 693-0085.

I'd recommend that you firm up your plans as soon as possible, because lodging on the islands is at a premium during the summer months. I imagine that pet-friendly accommodations can be especially tough to find at the last minute. (Many visitors to the islands reserve their lodging 9 months to a year in advance!)

If you do have trouble finding affordable, pet-friendly accommodations on Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard, perhaps you'd consider staying on Cape Cod and taking day trips to visit the islands. That's a very "do-able" option.

The Nantucket ferries and the Martha's Vineyard ferries allow well-behaved pets onboard, so your furry 4-legged friend can easily go day-tripping with you.

And there's plenty of great pet friendly lodging on Cape Cod.

Hope this helps!

Dee
