Family Emergency Preparedness Fire Prevention Fair

When: October 1, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Gus Canty Rec Center, 790 Main Street, Falmouth

Admission: Free

Is your family prepared to handle an emergency? At Falmouth Fire Rescue Department's annual Emergency Preparedness Fire Prevention Fair, you'll learn all about preparing emergency supply kits, helping senior and disabled family and friends through an emergency, readying your four-legged friends for sheltering, and so much more!

This fun event is for the whole family, so bring the kids along.

Your young 'uns will love the outdoor "Touch A Truck" event featuring fire trucks, a police cruiser and SWAT truck, an Emergency Command Center vehicle, and a Coast Guard boat. Entertainment will be provided by Harold the Ventriloquist and Friends, as well as “Patches” the Talking Automated Fire Dog.

Raffle prizes will be awarded, and popcorn, hot dogs and pizza will be available free of charge.

ClamBQ! The Orleans Food & Music Festival

When: October 1, 2016

Where: 80 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA

Ready to chow down on a traditional New England clambake? ClamBQ! will be serving up the full feast - complete with steamers, lobster, corn and potatoes.

Want more food? The experts from Big Dog’s BBQ at The Orleans Bowling Center will be there, dishing out yummy pulled-pork sandwiches and special sides. Plus, there'll be a food court with delicious fare from several local restaurants.

Beverages? Yep, there'll be plenty to wet your whistle, too, including beer and wine in The Cisco Brewery Beer and Wine Garden. 

And let's not forget the entertainment! This is an event that has something for every member of the family. Throughout the day, the main stage will feature performances by Jordan Renzi, The Grab Brothers, and The Rip It Ups. There'll also be a craft show and free kids’ activities including hay rides, face painting, skeeball, games, crafts and more.

What a great way to spend an early autumn day on Cape Cod!

Historic Sandwich Village Tours

When: October 1 and 8, 2016, begins at 10 a.m.

Where: Meet at Sandwich Glass Museum, 129 Main Street, Sandwich

Admission: Free. Donations are welcomed!

These fascinating walking tours stroll through the historic village of Sandwich, the Cape's oldest town. Knowledgeable, entertaining docents lead the tour, sharing stories of the town's people, places and history.

Cape Cod Cranberry Day

When: October 1, 2016, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Green Briar Nature Center and Jam Kitchen, 6 Discovery Hill Road (off Route 6A), East Sandwich, MA  02537

This fun and tasty event celebrates the native cranberry so prominent in the history of Cape Cod. See cooking demonstrations using old-time cranberry recipes.  Join a tour of the neighboring cranberry bog.  Visit the small resident animals and walk the grounds and trails on a fine fall day.

In the gift shop, sample jams made on-site as they have been for over 100 years. Browse among a used book sale to benefit the Nature Center's in-house natural history library.

Homemade cranberry crisp, clam chowder and chili will be available for purchase from 11am to 2pm in the historic Jam Kitchen.

Pumpkin Day at Bourne Farm

When: October 8, 2016, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Bourne Farm, North Falmouth Hgwy., North Falmouth

Admission: Admission and parking are Free; ticket sales per activity

Get into the swing of autumn at Bourne Farm. Pumpkin Day is a great family outing featuring hayrides, pony rides, arts and crafts, kayaks and paddle boats, face painting ... and plenty of pumpkins ripe for the picking!

Yarmouth Seaside Festival

When: October 8-10, 2016, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sat. & Sun., fireworks 8 p.m. Sunday, morning events on Monday.

Where: Various venues around town

Columbus Day weekend means it’s time for the Yarmouth Seaside Festival. This annual three-day extravaganza has tons of fun activities for the whole family including a craft fair, kids rides and games, a one-of-a-kind haunted maze, 5K road race, canoe and kayak race, sand-sculpting contest, a beach bonfire, and a fantastic  fireworks display at Seagull Beach.

Taylor-Bray Farm's Fall Festival

When: October 8, 2016 

Where: Taylor Bray Farm, 108 Bray Farm Road, Yarmouthport

Admission: Suggested parking donation $5

Visit historic Taylor-Bray Farm for a wonderful day of autumn activities. Originally settled in 1639, the 22-acre farm will host all sorts of old-fashioned family fun including hayrides, games, hearth cooking, face painting, a free giant pumpkin raffle for the kids, live music, and refreshments.

Wellfleet OysterFest

When: October 15 - 16, 2016, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Main Street and other venues in Wellfleet

Each year, OysterFest welcomes hundreds of locals and visitors from near and far for a celebration of the salty, succulent, world-renowned Wellfleet oyster. Fresh seafood is the star of the show, with fresh oysters, homemade chowder, and plenty of other delicacies purveyed in venues from the quaint town center to restaurants throughout town. Fest-goers of all ages will also enjoy arts and crafts, cooking demonstrations, nature walks and talks, live music, kids activities, and much more ... including the weekend's feature event - an oyster-shucking contest where competitors vie to win the $1000 first prize by properly shucking 24 oysters in the quickest time.

Cape Cod Marathon

When: October 30, 2016 (Half Marathon on October 29th) 

Where: Beginning and ending at the Falmouth Village Green, Falmouth

Admission: No cost for spectators, registration/entry fees required for marathoners

There's good reason that Runners' World named this as one of the "Ten Most Scenic" marathons in the world. Beginning and ending at the beautiful Village Green in Falmouth, the loop course takes runners along the shoreline, through farmlands and cranberry bogs, and past the imposing Nobska Light. Choose your spot along the course, and help cheer the runners on as they pass by!
